Nutrition plays a huge part in your dogs over all mental and physical well being. In some cases, bad nutrition has been the cause of behavioral issues. Many vets recommend poor quality dog food such as IAMS or Science Diet. Veterinarians receive very little nutritional training. The training
they do receive is often advocated by or even administered by the pet
food companies. Personally, for the average dog owner I recommend a high quality kibble such as wellness or taste of the wild mixed with a variety of veggies and meat. A raw food diet is the best diet for a dog, however there are many supplements needed to perfect the raw diet. It is expensive and time consuming. Chemicals found in pet food
BHA and BHT- preservatives used in many dog foods.They have been associated with liver damage,fetal abnormalities and metabolic stress. They also have a relationship to cancer.
Ethoxyquin- The most highly debated preservative in dog food. It is alleged that ethoxyquin has caused
cancer,liver,kidney and thyroid dysfunctions; reproductive failure and more.
Propylene Glycol-common ingredient in dog food and is closely related to ANTIFREEZE! causes destruction of the red blood cells
